Selling treated hemp rope

Choosing the right rope for Shibari is a very personal matter. Each rigger has their favorite characteristics in terms of handling, and each bunny has their own in terms of width, softness and smell.

After using jute rope for years, but not being able to find a new supplier in the quality we wanted, in 2023 we have gone over to buy raw hemp rope and process them to the suppleness, softness and color that we ourselves want.

4 pcs. rope of up to 8.5 meters each cost a total of DKK 800,- incl. VAT. You can choose between 5mm and 6mm thickness.

The same number, length and thickness in colors cost a total of DKK 1.200,- incl. VAT.

For more details see the table below.

Important: Our treated ropes must not be used for main suspension lines as their breaking load after treatment is unknown. For suspension lines we recommend synthetic hemp lookalike ropes. Here we can sell 2 pcs. 10 meters of rope for DKK 160 incl. VAT. (This is basically the purchase price as we don't have to spend days treating the ropes.)

A good rope set to start with will consist of 4 hemp ropes + possibly 2 suspension if you have suspension as a goal. It is enough to make a simple side suspension.

My own set my first years consisted of 8 ropes + 2 suspension ropes. It is enough for most bindings/patterns.

(Today I have in my bag: 12 basic ropes in different colors of 8 to 8.5 meters, 3 slightly longer ones for special things, 3 shorter bits for when you just need a little extra rope, and 6 suspension lines.)

The ropes are treated and dyed when they are sold, so it may take a few days. Write to [email protected] for ordering and more information, or to [email protected] for inquiries about special color wishes. Payment can be made via mobile pay or cash on collection. Shipping costs applicable PostNord rates for a package under 1 kg.

*1: The untreated hemp ropes are quire stiff. You could use an untreated 6mm hemp rope for suspension lines, and it will slowly break in to be softer, but for the soft feeling of rope on the body we recommend either our treated ropes or that you do the treatment yourself.

*2: The synthetic hemp ropes are softer and odorless, but have a slight tendency to give rope burn - we recommend them for main suspension lines and their strengt makes them ideal for dynamic lifts, but the rigger should not let the rope glide though their hands too fast.

*3: "Kinks" in rope would be pieces of hemp stuck in the rope, or other natural defects making bumps in the rope. For our treated ropes we cut the rope when we find significant kinks and use the smaller leftover pieces for color samples.

*4: For the best color results we need to import the needed colors, which can take extra time. Current colors we have in stock for faster delivery are:
